The MS course accredited by JABEE

We aim to cultivate mechanical engineers actively in the forefront of international research and development.

This course is an educational program accredited by JABEE (Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education), and consists of a curriculum aimed at achieving the educational and learning goals that are highly needed for mechanical engineers. In this course, you can take lectures both in the mechanical engineering course (ME course) and Aerospace engineering course (AE course). After passing through the MS course, you can obtain “the JABEE certificate” in addition to a diploma; therefore, you will be accredited to having “the quality of a mechanical engineer to meet international standards” officially. JABEE is the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education, and examines the educational program in engineering carried out in the university to verify whether it meets the standards that society demands, and accredits the program to meet the official standards. Nowadays, the internationalization of industry and economics is promoted, and the activities of engineers are not limited to their resident country, but expanded to foreign countries. Therefore engineers have to communicate with their foreign peers more actively. At that time, international accreditation of the quality of effectiveness of engineers in communicating with each other is needed at the minimum to proceed with joint projects smoothly. JABEE is a member of the international accreditation board that ensures the quality of engineers by a common international standard. Therefore, the department that proceeds with the educational program accredited by JABEE is also accredited to ensure “engineering education with a certain quality.”

The students who passed through the MS course accredited by JABEE are officially ensured “quality of engineers to meet the international standard.”

Furthermore, the MS course can be entered from the 2nd year provided some requirements are satisfied, for example, the credits earned in the 1st year. In the department of mechanical engineering in Okayama University of Science, the education program had been examined from 2002, and JABEE accredited the MS course in May 2006. After 2006, some students obtained the certificate of JABEE in addition to a diploma every year.

Additionally, graduates with the certificate from JABEE have been privileged to be exempted from the preliminary test of “the professional engineer examination.”
