Realization of new automatic manufacturing systems based on CAD and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Recently the automation systems of designing and manufacturing mechanical products have been developed rapidly. In particular, 3D models made from 3D CAD systems can aid designers and the models can be applied to CAM systems directly. Therefore, a reduction of cost and lead time in design and manufacturing has been seen in recent CAD/CAM systems. In our laboratory, we aim to develop more advanced automation systems. For example, we have developed systems to automatically reconstruct 3D models from 2D drawings, and we are developing a new AI system for CAD. In this system, a computer would learn mathematical concepts of geometry and model new products automatically.
